1. Can you see a Certificate of Analysis before you pay — without asking?

“COA on request” is the oldest stall in the market. Real documentation is published, not promised.

2. Does the report name the independent lab that ran it?

A named third-party lab (Janoshik, Freedom Diagnostics, etc.) can be contacted. “Tested in-house” is not third-party testing.

3. Does the COA carry a lot or batch number that matches your vial?

A report is only evidence for the exact batch it tested. An unmatched report tells you nothing about what you received.

4. Does it show the actual data — an HPLC chromatogram and a mass-spec result?

A bare “99% pure” line is a claim. The chromatogram and the MS spectrum are the evidence behind it.

5. Does it confirm identity, not just purity?

HPLC answers “how clean.” Mass spec answers “is this actually the molecule.” Substitution is invisible without it.

6. Can the report be verified on the lab’s own website, not just the vendor’s PDF?

A PDF can be edited in minutes. A report that resolves on the lab’s own domain is far harder to fake.

7. Is the test date recent and consistent with the batch?

A report predating the batch, or years old, is a recycled document — a common tell on fabricated COAs.

8. Is the price plausible for genuinely tested material?

Independent assays cost real money per lot. Pricing far below the market usually means a corner was cut — often the testing.

    What a real certificate of analysis actually shows

    Most disputes about peptide quality come down to one thing: the buyer was shown a number instead of a document. A purity figure on a product page is marketing. A certificate of analysis is a record of a test run on a specific batch, by a laboratory that can be contacted. These are the fields a genuine report carries, and what each one is for.

    Analyte
    The compound the lab actually tested, named precisely. If the report names a different molecule than the label on the vial, nothing else on the page matters.
    Issuing lab
    A named, independent laboratory — not the seller, not “our lab.” A named lab can be contacted and its records checked.
    Lot / batch
    Ties the report to one physical production run. Without a lot number matching your vial, a genuine report from an unrelated batch proves nothing about yours.
    Method
    HPLC establishes purity; mass spectrometry (MS / LC-MS) establishes identity. Purity without identity leaves substitution undetected.
    Result + chromatogram
    The number and the underlying trace. The chromatogram is the evidence; the percentage is a summary of it.
    Date
    When the test was run. A date that predates the batch, or a report years older than the material, is recycled paperwork.
    Verification path
    Where the lab supports it, a report identifier that resolves on the laboratory’s own website — the single hardest element to fake.

    How to confirm a report with the laboratory yourself

    If a report offers a verification link or a report number, use it, and check that the page you land on is on the laboratory’s own domain rather than a lookalike hosted by the seller. If there is no verification path, you can still email the issuing lab, quote the report number and the lot, and ask whether the document is theirs. Laboratories answer this routinely — it is part of why buyers pay for third-party testing at all. A vendor who reacts badly to that step has told you something useful.

    How do I know if my peptide COA is real?

    Work through six checks: the report names an independent laboratory; it carries a lot or batch number that matches the vial in your hand; it shows an HPLC chromatogram rather than a bare percentage; it confirms identity by mass spectrometry, not purity alone; the test date is consistent with the batch; and, where the lab supports it, the report resolves on the laboratory's own website rather than existing only as a PDF the seller sent you. A genuine report invites that scrutiny. A fabricated one wants you to accept a single number.

    What should a certificate of analysis include?

    At minimum: the analyte (compound) name, the issuing independent laboratory, the lot or batch number, the method used (HPLC for purity, LC-MS or MS for identity), a purity result expressed as a number, and the date the test was run. Reports that also publish the chromatogram and the mass-spec spectrum let you check the underlying data instead of trusting a summary line.

    Can I verify a peptide lab report with the laboratory directly?

    Sometimes, and it is worth doing. Some laboratories host reports on their own platform, so a report identifier can be checked against the lab's records rather than taken on faith from a PDF. Where a verification link exists, follow it and confirm the document resolves on the laboratory's own domain, not on a page controlled by the seller.

    Why do so many research peptides fail purity testing?

    Independent testing costs money per lot, so a supplier competing purely on price has a standing incentive to skip it, test one lot and reuse the paperwork, or rely on a certificate supplied by the manufacturer. Published analyses of grey-market material have repeatedly found a meaningful share of samples failing basic purity checks, which is why batch-level, independently verifiable documentation matters more than any purity number printed on a website.
